Year 6 - Blwyddyn Chwech
My name is Mr Adam Lopez and I am the Class Six teacher at Tavernspite C. P. School. Here, in Class Six, we live by the motto “work hard and play hard!” We are proud of our academic results, but equally so in developing the skills and talents of all our pupils. We understand that learning takes place in many ways; hence we provide many ‘windows of opportunity’ for our pupils to thrive both within the curriculum and beyond it with our comprehensive programme of extra-curricular activities, support groups and enrichment programmes. We aim to make our pupils independent and highly skilled lifelong learners.
Something that I promote in the pupils is self-belief, a proactive nature and a thirst for learning that will endure. I encourage the pupils to move forward on their learning journey with a steely determination to conquer any challenges that lay ahead, drawing on their experiences to strengthen them, and call on them to intrinsically motivate themselves to drive towards mastery and thrive through life. The pupils of Class Six embrace and adopt a ‘Growth Mindset’ which helps them to be effective, happy and successful people.
Class Six is a very fun, fast paced and focused class! I pride myself on running a challenging, yet supportive classroom. I am an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher. I manage a positive, calm and industrious learning environment that is conducive to effective learning. I work hard to ensure that the pupils’ learning experiences are memorable, and the standards that they achieve are the very best that they are capable of.
Our academic year is punctuated by a number of very valuable and memorable events. Each year pupils participate in: a Shakespeare and Christmas production; a WW2 theme day and visits; an Enterprise Fair event and activities; and a Skomer Island trip. At the start of each academic year, the pupils of Class Six undertake a residential stay at Pembrokeshire Adventure Centre. During the stay, the pupils develop their confidence, communication and problem-solving skills by participating in outdoor and adventurous activities – many conducted along Pembrokeshire’s beautiful coastline.
We are a very sporty and health conscious school. We work with our children to promote, instil and maintain a healthy attitude and lifestyle and, of course, a love and enjoyment of physical activity. The pupils have the opportunity to play and compete in a wide range of sports, and attend a variety of after school clubs.
The school provides a good range of high-quality learning experiences for pupils that enhance their education.
The school's commitment to using the outdoors to improve pupils’ learning and wellbeing is outstanding.
The quality of care, support and guidance is excellent.
